Normally when I say three parks in three days, I'm talking about Disney World. But not this time. We had an adventure (and driving) filled week as we visited three national parks in southern Colorado.
First was the Great Sand Dunes. They were very impressive. We thought they looked fake, as though someone had painted them onto the mountains.
It was slightly cold, but worth the walk to the dunes and the wide, but shallow, stream at the bottom of them.
Rohan and Bruce loved the big sandboxiness of the park :)
We spent the night in Durango and were off to Mesa Verde National Park the next day.
This is where the Anasazi Indians once dwelt. The cliff dwellings were pretty amazing.
We took a detour to Four Corners in between parks. Ben has always wanted to go to the place where four states meet.
On the way into Colorado from there, we saw a sign that said, "Welcome to Colorful Colorado." The scenery there was a little ironic. We saw this.
And then some more of this
But then . . .
Colorado had redeemed itself.
Our last national park was Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It was a ginormous canyon. I would not recommend visiting here if you have vertigo.
Or a fear of wind
Well, that was it for our summer vacationing. We signed up for a pool though, so we'll probably be swimming for fun until August when you-know-what starts again.
